MISSION
The core purpose of Urban Homeworks is to perpetuate the hope of Jesus Christ through innovative community development that produces dignified housing for low income families, a strategic network of good neighbors, and redemptive development of real estate. UHW has more than 140 family members and 63 young Christian professionals in rental housing and will have completed approximately 51 new construction homes by the end of 2009. UHW is also blessed with the service of more than 2,000 volunteers, and are looking for 2,500 this next year. An exciting aspect of Urban Homeworks today is the training program equipping community members with employable skills. Urban Homeworks is located at 3530 East 28th Street, Minneapolis, MN 55406.
URBAN HOMEWORKS URBAN NEIGHBOR
The Urban Neighbor Community, a part of the ministry of Urban Homeworks, is an incredible urban ministry-of-presence experience designed for the lives of young professionals and college/grad students. An Urban Neighbor is a follower of Christ who commits to living in community in an inner-city neighborhood of Minneapolis or St. Paul for the purpose of perpetuating the hope of Christ. Urban Neighbors commit to:
- Be a Servant: Volunteer several hours weekly with a ministry, church, or local agency that is targeting the needs of the community.
- Be a Learner: Urban Neighbors gather monthly to learn how to live effective, godly lives in the cross-cultural environment of the city. Community ministry leaders contribute their experience to these meetings which focus on ministry, justice, and mercy in the urban context.
- Be part of a Community: Urban Neighbors gather weekly with housemates for community-building; it’s about being real, going deeper, and following Jesus together.
