Families Moving Forward

NEXT FAMILIES MOVING FORWARD
Sunday, March 28 - Sunday, April 4

CPC in conjunction with our emergency shelter partner, Families Moving Forward, will be hosting and providing shelter for 4-5 homeless families each evening and overnight the week of March 28 through April 4. Join us in providing dinner, playtime, reading, spending the night, and generally being a comforting presence in the lives of those in need right now.

We need volunteers but the shelter also needs the following donations: large towels, children's socks (all sizes), girls underpants (smaller sizes), folders for students, and women's socks.

MISSION

Families Moving Forward is a faith-based organization providing temporary shelter, affordable housing, and supportive services to low-income families with children. Their greatest concern is the damage that homelessness causes children. Their services are free, allowing families to save their resources for their next home or future needs. They are located at 1808 Emerson Avenue North, Minneapolis, MN 55411.

FAMILIES MOVING FORWARD VOLUNTEER

Families Moving Forward is a CPC Deacon-coordinated opportunity that takes place at CPC. Many opportunities are available for individuals, families, and small groups to serve together. Sign-ups are taken in the Great Room prior to each week of hosting.

Consider serving in one of the following ways:

  • Meal Preparation: Prepare and serve the evening meal for about 20 people.
  • Evening Host: Greet guest families and join them for the evening meal. Host guests, particularly children, for evening activities including games in the Multi-Purpose Room.
  • Overnight Host: Host guest families overnight at CPC; help our guests get started in the morning with breakfast and see them off for the day.
  • Set-up: Help prepare the church on Sunday afternoon for the arrival of guest families.
  • Cleanup: At the end of the week, help to clean up and organize the areas used by guest families.
