INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION
Each summer, CPC offers paid internships to 14 college students. Each intern is assigned to a different ministry team for the summer. The ministry areas in which we offer internships are the Kids', Middle School, and High School Ministries.
Together with CPC’s full time staff, interns are the leaders on camps, trips, events, and service projects throughout the summer. If you are a college student, the internship is a chance for you to deepen your relationship with God, develop your leadership skills, and gain valuable job experience. It can also be a great way to discern if church ministry is a career you would like to pursue.
If you are interested in this opportunity for future summers, the following information will answer some of the questions you may be asking.
WHAT KIND OF APPLICANTS IS CPC SEEKING?
College students only (sorry, no graduate students). Applicants must have completed their freshman year of college to be considered. Graduating college seniors are welcome.
We are looking for interns who are:
- Actively pursuing a relationship with Jesus Christ.
- Energetic, hard-working, and creative people who are able to take initiative on projects and in relationships.
- Willing to do a wide rage of tasks from the menial and repetitive to the creative and challenging.
- Have a genuine interest or passion for one or more of the ministry areas that are hiring.
- Skilled at relating to others.
- We are especially interested in applicants who are curious about a career in ministry, though this is not a requirement of the internship.
THE DETAILS
What is the Pay?
Each intern earns $2,500 for the summer.
What are the Hours?
The internship at CPC is full time (45-50 hours per week). Interns may work more during certain weeks, depending on the needs of their ministry area (for example, the week right before a camp may require more hours for the final preparations). Because of the demanding nature of the internship, interns are not permitted to work a second job during the summer.
How Do I Apply?
We will begin accepting applications for Summer 2010 in November 2009.
WHAT IS THE USUAL TIMELINE?

MINISTRY DESCRIPTIONS
Kids' Ministries
CPC Kids’ Ministries puts on four camps during the summer for elementary-aged kids. The main focus for Kids’ interns is to spend the summer preparing for and leading camps. They get to share their faith with kids in many ways and help kids grow in theirs. Kids’ interns spend a lot of face time with kids, as well as time planning and organizing those events. Some of that looks like creating and being in skits, helping to write curriculum, getting supplies ready, creating t-shirt logos, and leading games, songs (if you have that gift), and small groups of kids on camp. As an intern, you will help lead on all Kids' Activities.
Camps include:
- Sports Life Camp: a day camp with 1st-3rd graders
- SOS: 3 days of service projects with 4th and 5th graders around the Twin Cities
- Summer Blast: a morning day camp experience for K–5th students where kids get to pick their area of concentration including cooking, sports, crafts, language immersion, and more.
In addition, this team has the opportunity to help create and lead two Weekend Kids’ Programs. If you enjoy kids or are considering a career involving children, this internship could be just for you!
Middle School Ministry
Summer in Middle School Ministry is structured around two camps and weekly events like Valleyfair, the MN Zoo, and service opportunities. The first camp is Rockslide in Northern Minnesota, which is designed for students entering 6th and 7th grade. The second camp is Quest which is a breathtaking experience on houseboats for students entering 8th grade. Middle School interns organize and lead on all the weekly events. They are an integral part of creative program planning and of designing tools that encourage spiritual growth for middle school students on camps. They purchase supplies, participate in the creative and spiritual planning and organize the many details that go into making a camp happen. At camps, interns share their faith story with students in large group and also lead daily small groups. Throughout the summer, middle school interns spend intentional time building relationships with a few students. It is a great experience to discover the inner workings of a church ministry and do plenty of teaching and leading.
High School Ministry
During the summer, High School Ministry does two missions trips, two camps, and a handful of events that bring students together relationally. The mission trip destinations are unknown at this point, but in the past we’ve gone to Juarez, Mexico, Washington D.C., and the Gulf Coast. Summit I is a camp for incoming 9th and 10th graders that happens in Jackson Hole, WY, and Summit II is a camp for incoming 11th and 12th graders that takes place in Moab, Utah. On these camps, students experience exhilarating adventures whitewater rafting, hiking, and off-roading, and encounter God through nature, deep friendships, conversations, laughter, and engaging in spiritual practices. Interns participate in the whole process of making these events and trips happen: brainstorming, organizing details, shopping for supplies, creating spiritual environments for individuals and groups, leading groups, sharing from their own faith journey, and cleaning it all up afterwards. Also, throughout the summer, interns intentionally build relationships with a few students at our fun outings with students and in Bible studies.

- “I have learned much about my leadership style and personality and how I need to work with people of other styles.”
